Habitat: in lightly-grazed (horses), shrubby wet prairie - wet meadow complex; Moist, sandy soil with little organic layer. Full sun to shaed by Salix discolor & Populus tremuloides. Associates include Carex haydenii, C. stricta, C. conoidea, C. lanuginosa, Juncus tenuis var. dudleyi, Poa palustris, Panicum boreale, Pedicularis lanceolata, Luzula multiflora, Platanthera flava, Onoclea sensibilis, Gentiana andrewsii, Saxifraga pennsylvanica, Potentilla palustris, Chrysanthemum leucanthemum, Cirsium muticum, Rudbeckia hirta.
