Habitat: on the lower portion of steep, 150ft, north-facing slope; Canopy composed of Betula allegheniensis, Abies balsamea & Acer saccharum. Red, silty-clay, in the immediate vicinity of groundwater seeps. Associates include Equisetum scirpoides, Circaea alpina.
