Habitat: Rolling terrain; in ecotonal area from northern hardwood forest to shrub swamp. In moist organic soil. Canopy here composed of Fraxinus nigra, Tilia americana, and Acer saccharum. Additional Associates include A. spicatum, Alnus incana, Parthenocissus inserta, Scutellaria lateriflora, Impatiens capensis, Pilea fontana, Equisetum arvense, Betula allegheniensis.
