Habitat: Locally rugged terrain ... In small, dry prairie remnants. Moderately coarse, tan sandy substrate. Level to gently-sloping areas. Full sun. Associated species include Dicanthelium wilcoxianum, Bouteloua hirsuta, Schizachrium scoparium, Aristida barisamea, Koeleria macrantha, Poa pratensis, Arabis glabra, Solidago nemoralis, S. rigida, Artemisia campestis, Penstemon grandiflorus, Melilotus sp. Rhizomatous.
