Habitat: wet forest 10-20 yards from the west bank of the river. Canopy dominated by mature Fraxinus nigra, with occasional Abies balsamea and Tilia americana. Understory mostly Abies balsamea. Moist mucky substrate with small boulders. Associated species include Equisetum arvense, E. pratense, Athyrium angustum, Matteuccia struthiopteris, Rubus pubescens, Mitella nuda, Asarum canadense, Cardamine pensylvanica, Ranunculus recurvatus, Aralia nudicaulis, Solidago flexicaulis, Carex radiata, C. vaginata, Toxicodendron rydbergii.
