Associates include Rhus glabra, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Symphoricarpos occidentalis, Juniperus communis, Glycyrrhiza lepidota, Solidago hispida, S. nemoralis, Astragalus neglectus, Aster laevis, Apocynum androsaemifolium, Gentiana andrewsii, Bromus intermis, Agrostis alba, Andropogon gerardii.
