Habitat: On extensive north to northwest-facing cliffs forming the crest of 450-foot ridge above the [river]. A few hundred plants along 1/4-mile segment including the tallest portions of the mile-long diabase feature. Occuring on lower half of the mostly forested cliffs which range here from 75 to 150 fett tall. Often in thick moss mats. Often shaded by Alnus viridis, Sorbus decora, Thuja occidentalis, and Betula cordifolia. Additional associates include Carex eburnea, C. abdita, C. scirpoidea, Agrostis scabra, Poa sp. Huperzia selago, H. appalachiana, Gymnocarpium jessoense, Woodsia ilvensis, W. glabella, Dryopteris fragrans, Campanula rotundifolia, Solidago hispida.
