Habitat: small poor fen ("cranberry bog") in slight, three acre depression atop wooded, 60 foot hill. Mostly in partial shade of Betula papyrifera, B. glandulifera, and Acer rubrum. Spongy, continuous Sphagnum substrate. Forms dense, small patches. Assciates include Carex chordorrhiza, C. lasiocarpa, C. lacustris, Thelypteris palustris, Polygonum sagittatum, Drosera rotundifolia, Spiraea tomentosa, Vaccinium macrocarpon.
