Habitat: Level forested terrain ... near two-track forest road through ~25-year old Pinus resinosa plantation (formerly a Pinus banksiana woodland). Full sun to partial shade in ~1/4-acre opening in plantation where the native ground layer is largely intact. Dry, sandy soil. Associates include Festuca ovina, Koeleria macrantha, Danthonia spicata, Andropogon gerardii, Prunus pumila, Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, Solidago nemoralis, Galium boreale.
