Habitat: Level, sandy outwash terrain ... In rich sedge fen forming a broad zone ... Wet quaky peat. In carpets of Bryales mosses. In areas dominated by Carex lasiocarpa and Thelypteris palustris. Not seen in wetter areas which are dominated by Carex rostrata. Full sun. Additional associates include Triadenum fraseri, Scutellaria galericulata, Sagittaria latifolia, Eriophorum gracile, Carex chordorrhiza, C. echinata.
