Habitat: In peatland ... In small (5-acre) rich fen opening in large tamarack swamp. Spongy, deep, saturated sedge peat. Subtle water movement (water track). Full sun to partial shade of stunted Larix laricina. Associated species include Carex lasiocarpa, C. livida, C. limosa, C. chordorrhiza, C. diandra, Muhlenbergia glomerata, Salix candida, S. pedicellaris, Galium labradoricum, Caltha palustris, Aster borealis, Menyanthes trifoliata, Sarracenia purpurea, Triglochin maritia. Loosely cespitose.
