Habitat: Gently rolling terrain ... in dry jack pine woodland on drumlin ... Patchy canopy dominated by Pinus banksiana. Sparse shrub layer dominated by Corylus americana. Coarse, well-drained sand. In carpets of Bryales mosses. Partial shade. Additional associates include Oryzopsis pungens, Andropogon gerardii, Sorghastrum nutans, Poa pratensis, Koeleria macrantha, Danthonia spicata, Carex pensylvanica, Pedicularis canadensis, Campanula rotundirolia, Antennaria neglecta, Galium boreale, Aster laevis, Amorpha canescens, Salix humilis.
