Habitat: in shallow water and wet soil of wet road ditch which has naturally re-vegetated approximately 30 years after road realignment. Thin, mucky, clay over gravel. Mostly in full sun, some in partial shade of Alnus incana. Associates include Eleocharis elliptica, Juncus longistylis, J. brevicaudatus, J. nodosus, Carex viridula, C. aurea, Equisetum arvense, Euthamia graminifolia, Halenia deflexa.
