Habitat:
in alluvial forest ... Forming fairly dense carpets, often the dominant ground cover, on slightly higher ground. Canopy dominated by Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Tilia americana, Ulmus americana, and Acer saccharinum. Silty soil. Associated species include Carex intumescens, C. tenera var. echinodes, C. grisea, C. radiata, C. lupulina, Galium obtusum, Laportea canadensis, Lysimachia ciliata, Arisaema triphyllum, Ranunculus abortivus, Smilax illinoensis, and seedlings of Acer saccharinum and Fraxinus pennsylvanica.
