Habitat: on somewhat moist, steeply-sloping, upper portion of 40ft. high bedrock outcrop of the Thomson formation (slate & graywacke) ... In partial shade of Pinus strobus. Rooted amongst lichens & mosses in cracks of the rock. Associates include Danthonia spicata, Woodsia ilvensis, Melampyrum lineare, Sorbus decora, Vaccinium angustifolium & Acer rubrum seedlings.
