Habitat: Dry sandy soil in oak-aspen woodland ... Associated with Corylus americana, Zanthoxylum americanum, Crataegus macrosperma, C. punctata, C. chrysocarpa.
Description: A small upright understory tree with ascending branches. A single stem about 3 meters tall and 3 cm in diameter. Stamens ca 10, anthers white. No compound thorns; simple thorns long and dark. Fruits dull red, L=0.95-1.30 cm, W=1.0-1.35 cm. Nutlets 2-3.
