Habitat: In peaty, wet meadow grading into deeper, emergent marsh; open water pools with floating muck and dead, floating logs. Calamagrostis canadensis, Scirpus cyperinus, Calla palustris, Sparganium chlorocarpum and other species uncommon (Lycopus uniflorus, Carex canescens, Aster puniceus).
