Habitat: on low anorthositic outcrops rising here to ten feet out of the surrounding bog forest which is dominated by Picea mariana. Canopy here is interrupted due to the bedrock exposure. Partial shade. In fairly dry lichen mats over exposed bedrock.
Associated Species: Associates include Vaccinium angustifolium, Chimaphila umbellata.
