Habitat: In small spring fen in fairly rugged terrain ... in five-acre sedge-fen near pools of upwelling groundwater. Also occasional small patches along small, slow-miving stream upgradient in ravine flowing through swamp dominated by Larix laricina, Thuja occidentalis, and Alnus incana. In ravine between the steep slopes of 150-foot ridge to south and the more gradual slopes of much higher ridge to north. Deep, spongy, saturated peat. Full sun to shaded. Associates include Scirpus hudsonianus, Carex exilis, C. lasiocarpa, Eleocharis compressa, Juncus stygius, Drosera anglica, D. intermedia, Utricularia intermedia, U. minor, Equisetum fluviatile.
