Habitat: aspen - birch - fir forest (on the drier end of the spectrum): lots of beaver activity. Growing with Aster macrophyllus, Aralia nudicaulis, Uvularia grandiflora, Carex pensylvanica, Galium boreale, Hepatica americana, Symphoricarpos albus, Viburnum rafinesquianum, Corylus americana, Ulmus thomasii, Populus grandidentata, Tilia americana, Abies balsamifera, Quercus macrocarpa.
