Habitat: in patch of (mesic) sand prairie surrounded by wet meadow and groves if immature Populus tremuloides. Sandy soil. Full sun to partial shade if immature Poulus tremuloides. Associates include Andropogon gerardii, Poa pratensis, Lespedeza capitata, Galium boreale, Fragaria virginiana, Thalictrum dasycarpum, Achillea millefolium, Lithospermum canescens, Solidago gigantea.
