Habitat: Level, sandy, outwash terrain ... Rich sedge fen forming a broad zone ... Occurring in areas dominated either by Carex lasiocarpa or Carex rostrata. Often in carpets of Bryales mosses. Wet quaky peat, sometimes in shallow water. Forming loose clumps. Full sun. Additional associates include Triadenum fraseri, Scutellaria galericulata, Sagittaria latifolia, Utricularia minor, U. vulgaris, Potamogeton gramineus, Eriophorum gracile, Carex chordorrhiza, C. prairea, Eleocharis elliptica.
