Habitat: in carpets of Sphagnum moss on floating sedge mat (rich fen) on the boggy margin of shallow marly lake. Narrow zone between open water and tamarack swamp. Wet, mucky peat. Full sun. Associates include Carex lasiocarpa, C. pseudocyperus, Cyperus odoratus, Eleocharis smallii, Leersia oryzoides, Scutellaria lateriflora, Aster borealis, Triadenum fraseri, Galium trifidum, Lycopus uniflorus, Sagittaria latifolia, Cicuta bulbifera, Pilea fontana.
