Habitat: in old-growth northern hardwood forest on ridge...Canopy of large Betula allegheniensis & Acer saccharum, with scattered Thuja occidentalis. Understory dominated by Acer saccharum. Mostly in moister areas along slight ravines in gradually rolling terrain. Associates include Acer saccharum seedlings, Athyrium angustum, Galium triflorum, Polygonatum pubescens, Smilacina racemosa, Claytonia caroliniana, Carex pedunculata, C. arctata, Oryzopsis asperifolia.
