Habitat: In a broken-canopy jack pine woodland. In dry sandy soil and partial shade ... Associated with Pinus banksiana, Quercus ellipsoidalis, Corylus americana, Comptonia peregrina.
Description: A medium-size shrub with 12-15 stems; up to 2 m tall, and 2 cm dbh. Bark gray, rogh. Branchlets yellow-borwn. Pistillate plants about one week later than staminate.
