Habitat: in recently logged (clear-cut) patch of aspen-fir forest on small (five-acre) upland island in fairly extensive conifer swamp complex ... Area logged within past two years. Well drained sandy soil with thick humus layer. Full sun. Associated species include Carex backii, C. houghtoniana, C. tonsa var. rugosperma, C. peckii, C. deweyana, Schizachrium [sic] scoparium, Aster macrophyllus, Cirsium arvense, C. vulgare, Carduus nutans, Verbascum thapsus, Geranium bicknellii, Conyza canadensis, Aquilegia canadensis, Polygonum convolvulus, Thalictrum dasycarpum, Rubus pubescens, R. strigosus.
