Habitat: in alluvial forest ... Canopy dominated by Fraxinus pennsylvanica and Acer saccharinum. Silty soil. Associated species include Carex intumescens, C. assiniboinensis, C. grisea, C. radiata, C. lupulina, Galium obtusum, Laportea canadensis, Lysimachia ciliata, Arisaema triphyllum, Ranunculus abortivus, Smilax illinoensis, and seedlings of Acer saccharinum and Fraxinus pennsylvanica.
