Habitat: seepage-fed black ash swamp at the base of a steep, 70ft. south-facing slope. Canopy sparse, dominated by Fraxinus nigra with rare Larix laricina & Betula allegheniensis. Alnus incana common as a tall shrub. In mossy areas. Associates include Carex disperma, C. leptalea, Mitella nuda, impatiens capensis, Rubus pubescens, Galium asprellum, Saxifraga pennsylvanica, Thalictrum dasycarpum, Arisaema triphyllum, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Laportea canadensis, Ribes hirtellum.
