Habitat: on floating sedge mat on boggy margin of shallow marly lake [and] in carpet of Sphagnum moss. Associates include Carex lasiocarpa, C. chordorrhiza, C. paupercula, C. interior, C. limosa, Thelypteris palustris, Potentilla palustris, Galium labradoricum, Eriophorum gracile, Sarracenia purpurea, Drosera rotundifolia, Salix pedicellaris, S. candida. Also frequent in parts of adjacent tamarack swamp, especially in partial sun smongst immature Larix laricina stands. Forms hummocks.
