Habitat: small poor fen ("cranberry bog") in slight, three acre depression atop 60 foot wooded hill.. full sun to partial shade. Spongy, continuous Sphagnum substrate. Associates include Betula papyrifera, B. glandulifera, vaccinium macrocarpon, Spiraea tomentosa, Thelypteria palustris, Triadenum fraseri, Drosera rotundifolia, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Sagittaria latifolia, Dryopteris cristata, Carex chordorrhiza, C. lacustris, C. utriculata, C. lasiocarpa, Dulichium arundinaceum.
