Habitat: Strongly-rolling forested moraine ... margin of tiny (~1/8-acre) vernal wetland in shallow depression, on level ridge top above steep north-facing slope ... Narrow ecotonal zone in mesic hardwood forest dominated locally by Tilia americana, Populus grandidentata, Acer rubrum, Quercus macrocarpa, and Q. rubra. understory of Acer rubrum and Ostrya virginiana. Moist, organic sandy-loam; thick leaf litter. Very sparse herbaceous cover locally. Associated species include Amphicarpaea bracteata, Pyrola elliptica, Maianthemum canadense, Uvularia sessilifolia, Pteridium aquilinum, Toxicodendron rydbergii.
