Habitat: mature northern hardwood/maple basswood forest on small uplan island. Canopy dominated by large Acer saccharum, Tilia americana & Quercus rubra. Rocky, brown loam with surface boulders. Associates include Prunus virginiana, Ostrya virginiana, Ulmus rubra, Aralia nudicaulis, Uvularia grandiflora, Polygonatum pubescens, Caulophyllum thalictroides, Phryma leptostachya, Brachyelytrum erectum.
