Habitat: Strongly-rolling forested moraine ... upper half of extremely steep, 30- to 40-foot, west-facing slope ... narrow strip of dry prairie / savanna. Full sun to partially shaded by open grown Quercus macrocarpa. Coarse sand with numerous small stones. Associated species include Schizachrium [sic] scoparium, Andropogon gerardii, Muhlenbergia cuspidata, Carex pellita, C. siccata, Delphinium virescens, Allium stellatum, Viola pedatifida, Tradescantia bracteata, Petalostemum purpureum, Artemisia campestris, Heuchera richardsonii, Lithospermum canescens, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Amorpha canescens.
