Habitat: Strongly-rolling forested moraine ... mesic hardwood forest along base and lower portion of rather steep, 70-foot, north-facing slope above [lake]. Canopy dominated here by Tilia americana, Betula papyrifera, Acer rubrum, and A. saccharum. Rather dense understory of Acer saccharum, A. ruburm, and Ostrya virginiana. Compacted sandy-loam ... Associated species include Huperzia lucidula, Athyrium angustum, Smilacina racemosa, Solidago flexicaulis, Actaea rubra, Uvularia sessilifolia, Osmorhiza claytonii, Streptopus roseus, Maianthemum canadense, Carex pedunculata, and seedlings of Acer saccharum and Tilia americana.
