Habitat: Rather strongly-rolling forested moraine ... on moderately steep, 50-foot, south-facing slope ... small (~2-acre) savanna-like opening along two-track road through dry oak woodland. Full sun to partial shade of Quercus ellipsoidalis and Pinus banksiana. Sandy soil. Additional associates include Sorghastrum nutans, Liatris aspera, Solidago rigida, Petalostemum purpureum, P. candidum, Artemisia campestris, Helianthemum bicknellii, Conyza canadensis, Lespedeza capitata, Rubus allegheniensis.
