Habitat: Mixed hardwood forest dominated by Acer saccharum and Quercus rubra, with Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Picea glauca, Pinus strobus, and Populus tremuloides. Understory of dense shrubs, especially Viburnum, Cornus, and Pteridium aquilinum, Eurybia macrophylla, and Apocynum androsaemilfolium.
