Habitat: in an older Jack pine forest on outwash. Picea mariana, Abies balsamea, Corylus cornuta, Diervilla lonicera, and Rosa acicularis common in understory. Associates include Maianthemum canadense, Galium boreale, Pteridium aquilinum, Rubus pubescens, Trientalis borealis, and Anemone quinquefolia.
