Habitat: in shady, forested peatland. In deep hummocky Sphagnum-dominated substrate, under canopy of Picea mariana and Alnus incana. Associates include: Glyceria striata, G. canadensis, Carex paupercula, C. leptalea, C. lasiocarpa, C. disperma, Coptis trifolia, Rubus pubescens, Ledum groenlandicum, Gaultheria hispidula, Equisetum sylvaticum, Agrostis hyemalis.
