Habitat: On the floodplain near the base of steep, southwest-facing slope of 35-foot high sandy terrace. In alluvial forest beneath interrupted canopy of Fraxinus pennsylvanica and Acer saccharinum. Patchy understory of Fraxinus pennsylvanica, F. nigra, Acer negundo, and Rhamnus cathartica. Well-drained silty soil, 2-4 feet above elevation of adjacent backwater marsh ... Additional associates include Laportea canadensis, Geum canadense, Hackelia deflexa, Prunella vulgaris, Lycimachia ciliata, Aster ontarionis, Rudbeckia laciniata, Parthenocissus inserta.
