Habitat: In a mesic deciduous forest dominated by red oak and black cherry ... Associated with Corylus americana, Viburnum rafinesquianum, V. lentago, Rhamnus cathartica, Cornus foemina ssp. racemosa.
Description: A small single-stemmed understory tree 5.3 m tall and 9 cm dbh. Stamens 7-10, anthers pale pink. No compound thorns, simple thorns occasional. 2-3 days past peak of antheisis (spring about 1 week late). Collected from same stem as WRS 26467 (fruiting).
