Habitat: Dry prairie, sand-gravel subtype. The area is actively grazed and no thatch of prairie grass remains. Middle of a north facing slope in full sun. Growing with Carex heliphila, Galium boreale, Antennaria neglecta, A. plantaginifolia, Poa pratensis.
