Habitat: in large tamarack swamp dominated by rather dense, mature canopy of Larix laricina. In rather open, sparsely mossy, low aras between Larix hummocks. Moist to wet peat. Rarely on drier hummocks. Associates include Impatiens capensis, Cicuta bulbifera, Thelypteris palustris, Cardamine bulbosa, Smilacina trifoliata, Rhamnus alnifolia, Ribes hirtellum, Betula glandulifera, Alnus incana.
