Habitat: Rugged terrain ... in maturing oak stand on moderately steep, 80-foot, south-facing slope and ridgetop. Brown, rocky, sandy-loam. Canopy dominated by Quercus rubra with occasional Betula papyrifera. Understory dominated by Acer saccharum. Associates include Carex gracilescens, C. peckii, C. pedunculata, C. communis, C. deweyana, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Aster macrophyllus, Aralia nudicaulis, Pteridium aquilinum, Streptopus roseus, Maianthemum canadense, Polygonatum pubescens, Lathyrus ochroleucus, Corylus cornuta.
