Habitat: rich, mature maple-basswood forest on level uplands ... In forest with heavy canopy cover dominated by Acer saccharum and Ulmus rubra. Soils consist of 1.5 feet of silt loam over hard clay mantle. Typical of Wells-Rush River moraine. Associated with Hydrophyllum virginianum, Viola pubescens, Circaea lutetiana ssp. canadensis, Galearis spectabilis, Carex amphibola var. turgida.
