Habitat: tamarack swamp and on sedge mat (rich fen) on boggy margin of marly shallow lake. In partial to full shade of Larix laricina. Often in carpet of Sphagnum moss. Associates include Carex lasiocarpa, C. interior, C. chordorrhiza, C. prairea, C. limosa, Eriophorum gracile, Thelypteris palustris, Potentilla palustris, Galium labradoricum, Sarracenia purpurea, Drosera rotundifolia, Salix pedicellaris, Ribes hirtellum.
