Habitat: in a mature and multi-aged Maple-Basswood forest on heavy loam soil. Understory dominated by Acer saccharum, Ulmus rubra, and Tilia americana. Associated species include Carex pedunculata, Uvularia grandiflora, Botrychium virginiana, Viola pubescens, Ariseama [sic] triphyllum, and Aralia racemosa.
