Habitat: At the edge of a mesic oak-aspen forest dominated by Quercus macrocarpa and Populus tremuloides.
Description: Still 3-5 days pre-anthesis (spring 1 week early). A large shrub with a single stem 3 m tall, and 5 cm dbh. Stamens ca 10, anthers pink. Compound thorns present on lwer stem, simple thorns numerous and long.
