In shrub swamp; moist but not wet. Habitat dominated by Salix and Alnus incana ssp. rugosa. Associated with Athyrium angustum, Dryopteris carthusiana, Osmunda cinnamomea, Dryopteris cristata, Thelypteris palustris var. pubescens.
