Habitat: in major groundwater seepage zone ... along seepage flows, and on the margins of the small, clear, cold creek in the immediate vicinity of the springs. Rooted in a layer of organic muck over sand. Some plants entirely submerged in the creek. Mostly in full sun, some plants in partial shade of adjacent tamarack-black spruce swamp. Associated species include Nasturtium officinale, Caltha palustris, Impatiens capensis, Aster puniceus.
