Habitat: along the margins of the river channel, especially where the river is bordered by sedge meadow and marsh. In water 2-3 feet deep; water levels high due to above average seasonal precipitation. Substrate is sand and muck. Full sun. Associated species include Zizania palustris, Carex lacustris, Calamagrostis canadensis, Glyceria borealis, Phalaris arundinacea, Typha x glauca, Sagittaria latifolia, Sparganium eurycarpum, Polygonum amphibium var. stipulaceum.
